It begins, again!! I'm going to start working on my next Oz: the Manga adaptation sometime next month. I really can't wait to go full bore into this series. Planned for eight issues, black and white. Let me know if you have any questions!
In my OZ novel, there is mention of a thermonuclear war that ended the Rivin Empire and created the Deadly Desert, as well as caused some of the phenomena and unique monsters that still lurk in corners of the land that will BECOME Oz.
I also trace geological events back to the primal supercontinent of YamaYamaLand ..
A lot of action takes place in Winkie territory which is poorly charted even now.(Some shards from the Rivin Empire engines can still be found).
Of course, Oz pales besides Wonderland and LookinglassLand where time loops, unexplainable phenomena, etc., exist.
Pretty cool interpretation of the characters and the art is really excellent, obviously. It seems to me like most modern incarnations of Oz turn the Tin Man into some sort of robot, though I have to say, I do like the steampunky approach here. Mombi reminds me of a cross between the Red Queen and one of the skexies from the Dark Crystal, and I'm trying to decide if she's standing at a crazy angle or hovering. I like the turn of the century look Tip is sporting. I remember in the book, he wore a Munchkin outfit, though I have an old copy of it from the sixties where they used some of the original illustrations, but on the cover, depicted Tip as this whitebread, contemporary-looking kid, probably to make him seem more more relatable to boys, which is kind of weird, considering what happens towards the end of the book.
The cover looks alredy interesting. My favorite character is the boy. I hope there will be more of your great illustrations from the manga here. I am from Germany but I have a source to get the print when It cames out.
WOW !! it's incredible, amazing, I like the colors. Nice colors put to him to this drawing, I remember that this he was a classic one of the cinema, although the character of the pumpkin head also appears classic animated series, by the way where is Dorothy? Another great work.
Sorry, she isn't in Land of Oz. The Cowardly Lion is left out as well! Maybe Baum felt like going in a different direction w/ this story, I can't say for sure. Dorothy is mentioned, and I will show that, but thats about it.
Well, you should be able to get it through your local comic shop. It's coming out starting in July, so let your retailer know to order it. Also, you may be able to order it online from Antarctic press [link]. At some point it's going to show up in pocket manga format at the bookstores, so keep an eye out!
Hey, thanks! I'm glad you like those covers. Well... The reason is that I hadn't really finalized the way Scarecrow's face was going to look and work. When I did this cover, his face was going to be more 'alive.' Later on I thought he should have a more two dimensional feel, as opposed to actually giving him 'eyes' and a 'mouth.' But, who knows? Maybe it's time for him to have an upgrade to something more human. If so, he'll look one way on the first cover of this series, and have a different look the rest of the time!
